It just started one day out of the blue and drove me crazy. Phone could make a call, but during the call there was no sound coming from the earpiece and the person on the other side could not hear anything. Tested lower mic by using S voice and that worked. Thank You SO much for your information!!!!
It saved me Big Time!!!!! I ordered the part of the Internet and found a YouTube video and Walla!!! It worked!!! Thank You SO much for taking the time to post your solution it made my life easier!!!! After trying everything else on this forum, I am left with only one option, to jump aboard the Sim Card Reader ship as well. I ordered one for my I today. I hope it will be the "answer" to being able to answer my phone!
I'll keep you posted on my success of lack thereof. Since you suggested replacing the Sim Card and SD card reader, I did it today, the part was easy to replace, but after rebooting the phone I still have the same problem after 3 successful phone calls--the 4th call an hour later netted the same result! I am out of options. Same thing for me too! I just replaced the SIM card reader, disabled Google now, had it working and hour later received a call and nothing!!!

I dissasembly phone and all connections between parts.
After assembled it. No problems. Connections of the ribbon cable between the parts are cause. And mostly strikes!!!! Mark mowingcowboy. But when i hooked it up to blue tooth it worked threw my blue tooth device. I took it apart checked all my connections made sure everything was connected still no sound no mic. So i bought a new phone but it still bothered me that my old phone was not working properly since i had nothing to loose i took my old phone apart removed the main board removed camera lens that was attached all down to the bare board.
Then i heated up my toaster oven as hot as i can get it. Placed main board flat on a piece of parchment in oven for 8 min. Took it out let it cool down put it all back together and now my old phone works perfect. I'm guessing that there must have been a bad soldering spot on the board and the heat from the oven fixed it.
Been 3 days and it still works perfect. Kim Ezell. I bought my phone on April 12th and from day one had problems when calls come in I can't hear party and they can't hear me. Tmobile had me remove sim card and replace. This resolved the issue for 8 to 10 hrs and same problem. Finally I read somewhere to clear cache and cookies don't know why but after doing that it's been over a week and no more issues. Before it was happening 4 to 5 times a day.
Hope this helps. I took out my battery, put it back in, and it worked again. It was tremendously frustrating to have someone call and there was no sound or I tried to call my voicemail and heard nothing.

Daren Khatib. Fixed: I tried many of the suggestions that I found online sim card, SD card, reset, load new firmware, etc to fix my son's S4 - none of these suggestions fixed the problem. Since I had already reloaded the firmware, I factory reset the phone. During the factory setup process, I decided to log into the phone using my own Google account and restore my applications. This solved the problem. I hope this information helps others.
